Organising your home doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Being organised is also not necessarily a way of life way that is exclusive to the ‘’Organised.” Often (but not always), people put themselves, or others, into two categories: organised and structured, or disorganised and spontaneous.

It doesn’t have to be this way – organisation can be embraced by anyone in any situation, and the benefits are endless!

Here are just five ways you can embrace organisation in your home and life:

1.  Embrace what you already own

It’s easy to always allow ourselves to be on the pursuit for extra or different items. From furniture to décor to clothes, in the attempt to reach the satisfaction of having all we need. In reality, organising your home can do just that.

Having a place for everything, and everything in its place can breathe new life into your spaces, and a calmness (yes please!).

Going through the process of decluttering, and de-owning, sparks a different way of thinking when it comes to what we own and what we consider to be our possessions

Naturally, we then place more value on the art of buying (whether it’s  truly needed) versus the quick spur-of-the-moment purchases (in pursuit of particular immediate goal).

Reducing the volume of material items in your home can immediately reduce any feelings of overwhelm and anxiety around the things you chose to surround yourself with.

You can then focus and enjoy what you have – and going to the extreme with minimalising your home isn’t required! It’s about enjoying what you have and surrounding yourself with items that make you happy.

2.  Embrace your wellbeing as number one

There is no doubt feeling organised and the level of personal wellbeing goes hand in hand.

If your home is making you feel overwhelmed, is cluttered and disorganised, then choose to make this a priority by treating it as self-care.

Start small, one item or space at a time and dedicate this as time for you. The process itself can invite mindfulness. But remember, less than perfect is ok, especially if it conflicts with other priorities that you may hold high on your list.

When it comes to the actual act of decluttering your home, often physical activity is involved, which can be great for those energy levels. At the same time, it doesn’t necessarily require a lot of concentration – cue mindfulness! Creating organisation is a huge achievement which can give a great self confidence boost.

3.  Embrace being in control

Seeking organisation is often viewed as wanting to be in control – embrace it!

Feeling in control can mean different things to different people. Recreate your home so you feel this, at least some of the time.

Organise your kitchen so you feel you can cook when you need, organise your bathroom so you can get ready for the day calmly and on time. Organise your wardrobe so you can see and sort all your clothes at any given time.

There is no doubt an organised home can help to manage time more efficiently. When everything has a place, less time is being spent on trying to find misplaced items.

4.  Embrace your creativity

I had always considered myself to have zero creativity – which was fine as I thought I never needed it! Boy was I wrong, and I’m loving it! Embrace and uncover the creative side in you when it comes to organisation.

Spend time to think outside the square and consider each space in your home with fresh eyes. What vision do you have for each room – how do you want to use it for yourself, family members, visitors?

5.  Embrace your home

Most importantly – love where you live.

Big or small, old or modern – make yours its best version. Organise your home to reflect you and your lifestyle so it feels like it’s yours and surround yourself with what makes you happy and content – and nothing more.
