As the Managing Director of Genuine Support Services Australia (GSSA), I lead a dedicated team of support workers, skilled office professionals, and therapists committed to delivering personalised, high-quality services for individuals with disabilities. Founded in 2019, GSSA reflects my vision of empowering clients to achieve their life goals and find joy in their accomplishments.
My motivation for disability support is deeply rooted in both personal and professional experiences. Growing up with a mother living with a disability, I witnessed firsthand the impact of effective and ineffective support on her well-being and independence. My extensive background includes working with various organisations in the disability and community service sector, where I strive to uphold the highest standards and best practices.
Equipped with an advanced diploma in community services management, a diploma in counseling, and ongoing training and support from a clinical business psychologist, I possess the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a successful and sustainable organisation. Beyond business, I actively participate in community service events, and as a for-purpose organisation, my business partner and I take pride in our genuine commitment to community well-being.

// Let’s get to know you
My journey has been deeply influenced by my upbringing, particularly by my mother who faced significant challenges due to her disability. Being dubbed the “miracle baby” alongside her, showcased in various media outlets, instilled in me a profound sense of inspiration and purpose. This upbringing fueled my passion for helping others, leading me to pursue roles in case management and leadership across diverse sectors such as foster placement, homelessness, Aboriginal services, drug and alcohol support, and disability services.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference, I always aspired to establish my own disability organisation, envisioning a collaborative approach to support. Today, I am proud to lead an organization comprising approximately 140 support workers and 19 office staff, including psychologists and counselors.
Our ethos revolves around fostering genuine togetherness and providing holistic support to those in need. Looking ahead, our organisation is poised for growth and expansion. We are actively developing innovative programs, such as day options initiatives, and are venturing into the aged care sector to broaden our impact and reach. My personal background, coupled with the diverse experiences and expertise accumulated along the way, continues to guide me in shaping a brighter future for those we serve.

// What makes you a Woman to Watch for 2024?
In my corner of the world, I’m deeply passionate about running a for-purpose social enterprise dedicated to giving back to the community. One of our key initiatives is operating a community cafe every Friday, offering affordable meal options while also providing a supportive environment for individuals living with disability and mental health challenges to learn and grow.
We also actively engage with our local community by spearheading events like the Mental Health and Wellbeing Expo and partnering with our council for initiatives like the International Day of People Living with Disability and the Multicultural Festival. Additionally, we host low-cost and free activities to promote inclusivity and support other community projects.
A standout aspect of our work is our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. We donate leftover food to the homeless and have had the privilege of connecting with individuals experiencing homelessness, learning about their stories, and offering support. Furthermore, we prioritize the professional development of our staff, providing opportunities for upskilling and supporting them in achieving their personal and professional goals within our organization. Despite being a quiet achiever, our dedication to community empowerment, inclusivity, and support sets us apart and drives our impactful work forward.
// What are you most looking forward to in 2024?
Moving forward, I am eagerly anticipating the ongoing collaboration with my team to realize positive outcomes for our participants, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives. Ensuring our workers experience job satisfaction and maintain a healthy work-life balance remains a top priority, as their dedication directly impacts the quality of support we provide. Additionally, we are committed to sustaining our efforts in giving back to the community in various ways. Whether through volunteering initiatives, community events, or other forms of support, we remain steadfast in our commitment to making a meaningful difference. By fostering a supportive and empowering environment for both our team and the community, we aim to continue our mission of creating lasting positive impact and promoting well-being for all involved.
// What would being a Woman to Watch mean to you?
For me, achieving this, would be more than personal fulfillment; it’s about inspiring others by demonstrating that overcoming hardship, poverty, and adversities is possible. I believe in the power of resilience and growth, and I strive to be a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges. By sharing my journey and accomplishments, I aim to empower others to believe in their own potential and pursue their dreams relentlessly.
I envision creating a ripple effect of positive change, where individuals are encouraged to learn, grow, and support each other in their endeavours. Through my experiences, I want to show that no matter how difficult the circumstances may seem, there is always a way forward. With determination, perseverance, and a willingness to learn, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Ultimately, I aspire to build a community of support and empowerment, where individuals are inspired to create their own empires of success, regardless of their background or circumstances. I firmly believe that where there is a will, there is always a way, and I am committed to proving this by example. Together, we can break barriers, defy expectations, and pave the way for a brighter future filled with endless possibilities.
// What would you like to see for the future of South Australian women and girls?
Creating a space that nurtures opportunities for our young people is paramount, as they are the future leaders of our communities. Recognising the unique challenges they face in a rapidly changing world, it’s crucial to provide mentorship, support, and growth opportunities. While they bring valuable skills in technology and innovation, we can impart wisdom about love, values, and the importance of giving back.
By fostering an environment that encourages both learning and teaching, we can empower young people to become compassionate, resilient leaders who prioritise community support and connection. By bridging generational divides and offering guidance based on shared experiences, we can help shape a brighter future for all.
Encouraging empathy, kindness, and altruism, we can instill values that go beyond superficial appearances and materialistic pursuits. By demonstrating the fulfillment that comes from helping others, we inspire young people to overcome their own challenges and contribute positively to society.
Together, let’s pave the way for a generation of compassionate leaders who understand the importance of building supportive communities and giving back. By investing in our youth and providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we can challenge the notion that the world cannot be a better place.
