Tell us all about Real Moments Photography…

How do you capture a moment, really capture it, so that when you look back you can recall the exact feeling, the emotion, what it was like to be in that moment?

The ability to capture an individual’s personality takes great skill and lots of practice. By exploring people’s stories, learning what makes them who they are and finding out what’s important to them, I am able to create lasting memories through beautiful images and artwork which allow the uniqueness of the individual to shine through. It’s about allowing people to be themselves, connecting naturally with each other, and ensuring they are the very soul of the image. I have spent the past five years perfecting my distinct style and creating the perfect atmosphere to enrich the experience.

It’s an instant, a glance, a moment – a real moment. Real Moments Photography.

Why did you decide to start the business?

I worked as an Engineer in IT & Telecoms for 10 years. After I had my daughter (13 years ago) I got my first DSLR and started learning and playing with it. This hobby soon turned into a passion and a few years later into a career. I trained, did workshops and worked hard to learn my craft. Then came the big moment of decision – do I give up all the years of studying, University, working in IT for Photography. Passion won and I started up Real Moments Photography 5 years ago. I have never looked back since. I love being a business owner. I have learnt so much over the last 5 years and met so many amazing business owners (mostly women) and feel more fulfilled as a person. As a Mum I am able to give my kids more time and attention. The joy I see on my clients faces when they see their artwork for the first time is so precious. A lot of my clients share their life stories with me and we have become friends. I feel blessed to have them in my life.

Why do you think there are more and more women going into business?

For lifestyle and independence. As a Mum its very hard to work office hours and give attention to your kids (esp with all the after school activities). I think more women are going into business so that they can tailor their life around what’s important to them – whether that’s children or other personal interests. It also allows women to be independent and run their business the way they want to.

What do you think is one of the biggest Challenges for Women in Business?

The biggest challenge is to switch off from work as it follows you home when you are in business. The challenge is to be in the moment when you are not working. To completely ignore the phone or laptop and just be present in whatever it is you are doing when you are not working.

What is the best piece of Business Advice you have received?

OUTSOURCE!
As small business owners we take on way too much onto ourselves. I try to outsource as much as I can as long as it doesn’t affect have the experience I offer my clients or the quality of my products. Outsourcing allows me to have more time to work on the business and spend with my family.
