As the General Manager I am hungry to develop strong leadership capabilities and this has put me on a path of continuous leadership development, that I continue to chase every day.

In addition to my strategic leadership, I am passionate about developing people. From our in-house team to supporting community projects and works and supporting professional – especially females in the construction sector.

// What do you love most about being in business?

As the General Manager I see my leadership role is an opportunity to a make a difference in our industry, shape peoples futures and affect change through people. I am not only talking about the impact I have on my team I am talking about my whole community, that is everyone I come into contact with; our suppliers, the couriers that deliver our materials, the snack bar that makes and delivers our lunches. The responsibility of my community wellness is what I take seriously.

// What has been your biggest hurdle?

My biggest challenge was realising that as a leader I don’t know it all, and I shouldn’t project that I know it all and knowing how and when to admit it. To say “I don’t know” to my team has helped to build stronger connections with my team, and has actually elevated my leadership and makes me an honest leader. When I first went into business, I thought that I had to have all the answers. My auto response was to pretend when I didn’t know something for fear of looking silly. Admitting to the team that you don’t know but will be calling on them for advice seems to have had a much better result. Calling on the team to be part of a solution is also very powerful and it generates innovative and different resolutions. Overtime I have learnt to judge the level of honesty that is required for the situation as I still have to have that balance that I inspire confidence while being open when I don’t have all the solutions.

// What are you most proud of?

In February 2019 the launch of our new brand and trading name was undeniably very successful. After nearly 20 years in business, we felt that we wanted to make a definitive stand about our future.

We decided to take on more strategic thinking with our services and products, which consequently led to us being challenged about our brand.

We knew our logo and name needed to be updated and we wanted to revitalise the business while keeping our strong customer base happy.

I had a lot to consider before we made the final decision to re brand. Re-branding the business has been one of the most exciting projects I have been involved with and the overall success has been and still is quite overwhelming.

The backing from our team during the whole process was implausible and the customers support at our launch event, and from the ongoing feedback, has highlighted the strong presence and position we have in our marketplace.

// Do you have a fave place to spend summer/go to for coffee/ go to to relax/ go to for food?

Being a busy professional with endless deadlines and urgent projects, I am very aware of the importance of quieting the mind so I make time to practice yoga. For me yoga is a way to release after a challenging day, it opens my heart to beauty, love and kindness and is an opportunity to connect with my inner peace and be present.

// What advice would you give other women wanting to start a business?

// Share with us a quote or mantra you live by?
