// What were you doing prior to your business and why did you get started?
Prior to starting my business, I was working full-time as an emergency department nurse. I was tired, my body was sore, and my anxiety was through the roof. I have been blessed enough to hold people’s hands as they leave this world, but that means I also very much know the importance of making the most of the time we have here. I started my business to live more intentionally and help my clients do the same, so we can all enjoy the time we have.
// What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has absolutely been myself. I have gotten in my own way more times than I care to admit with imposter syndrome and procrastination. Getting my mindset right has been a big learning curve.
// How did you overcome it?
I overcame imposter syndrome by getting support from other women in business, living more slowly and intentionally to help me have a clearer mind to work through my feelings, filling my own cup, celebrating my achievements, and above all I stopped comparing myself to others. Of course, I still get imposter syndrome but now I have the tools to work through it.
// Do you have a fave place to spend summer/go to for coffee/ go to to relax/ go to for food?
There are so many wonderful little gems in SA, but one of my favourites is Square 44 Cafe at Surrey Downs, owned by a local brother and sister duo, I know they put their heart and soul into their business and it shows..plus the coffee is pretty awesome too!
// What is the best advice you have received that has stuck with you?
“No breakthroughs ever happen at your desk!” It’s easy to get stuck behind your desk for hours on end trying to make progress, and I was someone who did this too until I received this piece of advice. Break-throughs happen in the car, on a walk, in the shower, or even while enjoying a coffee at your favourite cafe..sometimes stepping away is the best way to support yourself.
