Meet SA Woman Member, Natalie Michels.
Business/Organisation: Alite Mind
Job Role: Counsellor
Tell us a bit about you:
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been someone others turn to, a person they feel safe sharing their thoughts and emotions with. I’ve always held space for others, listened deeply, and supported them through their challenges. Counselling felt like a natural path for me, and I’m proud to be a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. I combine evidence-based strategies with wisdom-based practices to help people create lives filled with meaning, purpose, and resilience.
Over the years, I’ve faced major surgeries, endured a domestic violence relationship at a young age, lived with chronic pain, and was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer a decade ago. These experiences gave me firsthand insight into suffering, feeling stuck, and being completely overwhelmed.
Beyond my work, I’m a mum to two wonderful young adults, a wife, and an animal and bird lover. Our home is often alive with the sounds of our two exotic parrots, and our labradoodles Poppy and Holly. I have a special admiration for pelicans and love to unwind by the beach, where I often meditate, birdwatch, and connect with nature.
Tell us a bit about your business or organisation/role:

Let’s get to know you a little more:
What has been a lesson you learnt in your career or business that has stayed with you?
Throughout my career, one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is to always trust your intuition—your gut instincts are often your most reliable guide. Equally important is building a strong team around you to drive growth and achieve your goals. Understanding the financial side of your business is critical; a simple cash flow spreadsheet can provide clarity on your income and expenses, emphasising the principle that cash flow truly is king in business. Networking has also been a game-changer for me. Taking the time to connect with like-minded businesses can expand your awareness, create valuable relationships, and open doors to new opportunities. Above all, it’s essential to stay true to your ethical boundaries, regardless of the actions of others.
What is your favourite place in South Australia to visit?
Point Turton
Why is being part of SA Woman important to you?
Being part of SA Women is incredibly important to me because it provides an opportunity to grow my network and support other women in business. As the owner of two businesses, I juggle two distinct roles. One is as the CEO of Coiltek, a manufacturing company I’ve led for over 10 years in a predominantly male-dominated industry. This has often been isolating, as I know all too well what it feels like to walk into a networking event as the only woman in the room, sometimes facing disrespect or not being taken seriously.
With over 17 years of business experience, I understand how valuable it is to share what I’ve learned to help others grow and avoid some of the challenges I’ve faced. Supporting and empowering others is a core goal for me.
My second role, as a sole trader in my counselling business, Alite Mind, focuses on mental health support. Networking with like-minded professionals in this field is crucial not only to build connections and learn from others but also to refer clients and continually grow as a practitioner. SA Women offers the perfect platform to achieve these goals while nurturing a sense of community and shared purpose.
