2024 Women to Watch

This year we showcase over 80 South Australian women to watch throughout the year. From business, to careers, arts to science. This year’s selected women highlight the depth and diversity of the women in our state and also the vast array of opportunities to develop a business or career in South Australia. Find our more about our inaugural Women to Watch initiative here.

Alexandra Sim is an efficiency coach for Australian small businesses. She is the only authorised provider of The Clockwork System™ in Australia, and focuses her support on low-stress leadership, empowered teams and organisational efficiency. Her background is business ownership, coaching and training in health professions, however now works primarily with women-led small businesses with teams of 1-20people.

Alex brings a holistic and vitalistic approach to her coaching and consulting, as well as a deep understanding & background in Human Design. She works with teams to recognise and develop strengths so that the right people are on the bus AND in the right seats within the organisation. Beyond the team focus, Alex supports teams to improve their systems and structures, so that there is less waste (time, money, resources) because structure tends to govern function.

Fortunately, she’s yet to meet a business owner who doesn’t want their business to function better, scale sustainably and allow their teams to thrive!

// Let’s get to know you
I started working in the Chiropractic profession when I was 17, as a Chiropractic Assistant (CA). I went on to study a Bachelor in Health Science (neuroscience) and fell in love with the neurological and behavioural changes I noticed in people through Chiropractic, as well as a the standards for health, kindness, support and passion within the profession. I began my own CA Coaching and Training business before eventually buying my own Chiropractic practice. This created a huge drive in me towards team happiness and healthy, empowering leadership. So, here I am now. I’ve sold one Chiropractic practice (I still own another in country SA) and spend the majority of my time now coaching & supporting other female business owners in organisational efficiency and creating empowered team cultures.

// What makes you a Woman to Watch for 2024?
Impact away from my own personal brand matters to me. I am passionate about contributing to the impact of others through supporting them with their strengths and coaching them to grow themselves, not just within their role, but as a person. I don’t love the spotlight (although I do do speaking arrangements if I can pack it with practical value!). I love to work with businesses from the inside out – how can we clean up their systems, leadership style, team roles and efficiency, so that they can truly thrive in the outward service they are offering the world. Some of the values that are most important to me are freedom and health (balanced & well-rounded health), therefore I love to see workplaces that are standing up for creating a healthy and balanced workplace, with the freedom for the owner and team members to be themselves!

// What is your goal or intention for the year ahead? And how are you going to achieve it?
I’m currently the only certified person in Australia to be able to provide The Clockwork System™ and support in implementing it, so I’d like to roll this out more broadly across our state, and Australia this year. This is one of the tools I use, amongst others, but it is probably the one that needs the most work towards growing its name in our country. In alignment with using that, I’ll continue supporting women-led businesses to scale sustainably, improve their workplace culture and streamline their organisational efficiency. How? Through the delivery of my Clockwork program, coaching and continuing to be a voice and contributor to integrity-driven leaders and teams, and empowering workplace environments.

// What would being a 2024 Woman to Watch mean to you?
Just being nominated has meant a lot! I love a bit of quiet achieving, so it’s beautiful to have been recognised. I put a lot into my work and know that the people I work with are incredibly grateful and excited for what we do together… but I don’t often shout it from the rooftops, so it’s pretty meaningful just to share a glimpse into my life and work here.

// What would you like to see for the future of South Australian women and girls?
I’m often torn between the idea of more noise and less noise. I see value in both! I actually think, generally speaking, women are giving it their all (and then some!) to brightening the future for the coming generations of women and girls. I would like to see this continue, as well as more men having the same standards & voice for this. The future for women shouldn’t only concern women.

I would love South Australia to be able to make some bold claims and to really be known for it’s prioritisation of gender equality. eg. The first state in Australia to truly equalise the gender pay gap; SA doubles maternity leave and paternity leave; SA offers free high level up-skilling to women re-entering the workforce; etc etc.

Last I checked, we were ahead of the other states & territories in most of these areas (and equality in general). SA Woman, government initiatives and a LOT of amazing people working behind the scenes have got us there. In an ideal world,

I’d like them (us) to not have had to work so hard for it. For now, I think we need to continue to recognise and support those who are paving the way, as well as those who might not have the political skills or desires to get involved at that level, but are doing fabulous work in their own corners and areas of strength.
