2024 Women to Watch

This year we showcase over 80 South Australian women to watch throughout the year. From business, to careers, arts to science. This year’s selected women highlight the depth and diversity of the women in our state and also the vast array of opportunities to develop a business or career in South Australia. Find our more about our inaugural Women to Watch initiative here.

With a background in events and business development, I discovered the Zahra Foundation during my previous role. The alignment of values was immediate. As an advocate for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, I recognized this as the perfect opportunity to leverage my skills in bringing people together to support women and drive meaningful change. My passion lies in fostering partnerships that create tangible impact in the lives of women and their children. Through strategic events and community engagement, I am committed to empowering women on their recovery journey.

// Let’s get to know you
After many years of working in events and business development, I knew that I wanted to find a way to utilize my existing skills while but expand my knowledge into events, fundraising, and partnerships. I also wanted to take on a meaningful role that made a difference to peoples lives. However, I was unsure where to begin in making this career transition. Then, I had the opportunity to host an event for the Zahra Foundation, and there was an immediate alignment of values. I am now working at the Zahra Foundation as the Head of Business Services and this career shift has been a significant learning experience for me. While it has been a challenging journey, it has also been incredibly rewarding. I am immensely grateful to be working in a role where I can contribute to such a meaningful causes for women.

Every day, I am inspired by the impact the foundation makes on women and their families lives.

// What makes you a Woman to Watch for 2024?
I’m passionate about developing partnerships that drive real change in the lives of women and their children. I am working on events, educational tools, and partnerships that are not only collaborative but also empower people to make changes in the way we respond to women and non-binary individuals recovering from domestic abuse. Whether it is an event where attendees are equipped with practical tools to assist someone disclosing abuse or corporate training and policy review so that organizations can better respond, I am committed to making a difference.

I am also passionate about sharing information and ideas so that people feel empowered to make change and better understand the issue.

// What is your goal or intention for the year ahead? And how are you going to achieve it?
My goal for the year is to develop my skills further in fundraising and communications. I am very lucky to have been offered a scholarship with Change & Co to complete a Fundraising Communications Mastery and am looking forward to diving into this. I also aim to develop more strategic partnerships for the Foundation to ensure access for as many women as possible.

// What would being a Woman to Watch mean to you?
Just being nominated was such a huge honour! To be a Woman to Watch would be even more incredible. I would be so proud and grateful to be acknowledged for my hard work and dedication. It would also motivate me to keep striving for excellence

// What would you like to see for the future of South Australian women and girls?
An ideal future involves one where women are in leadership positions and its the norm rather than something celebrated when it does happen. We need to empower more women to feel comfortable taking on these roles.
