Kookaburra Films is a small video production company that creates video content for businesses and local organisations. I’ve officially launched Kookaburra Films in December 2021 with the idea of helping people find the best way to tell their stories and create really authentic videos that reflect who they are. I am based in Adelaide but happy to travel anywhere in South Australia.
// What were you doing prior to your business and why did you get started?
Before opening my business I worked as a TV journalist in France for several years. I was creating news reports on a very wide range of topics for the daily newscast. I started working as a journalist to capture real and impactful stories, which is still what I love the most about working as a freelance videographer.
// What do you love most about being in business?
I really love starting something from the ground up and slowly growing it into my ideal business. It’s incredibly challenging, I don’t mean that in a bad way! Of course it can be really overwhelming and stressful at times but when you receive amazing feedbacks from your clients and see how much they loved what you created for them, it’s so rewarding it makes it all worth it!
// What has been your biggest hurdle?
One of hardest thing for me (and I’m sure for many people) is pricing my services. I’m sure it’s a lot of hit-and-miss at the beginning and it gets easier with times. I still find it quite challenging sometimes to evaluate how much I should be charging for a project but I’m adjusting as I go.
// Lets talk South Australia, What do you love most about doing business here?
The best part of opening a business in South Australia is hands down the SA Woman community. For someone who arrived here and didn’t know anyone, had literally zero connexions whatsoever it has been absolutely amazing to be supported by an entire community of women in business!
// What advice would you give other women wanting to start a business?
Don’t wait until everything is perfect! It’s never going to be the ideal moment to start your business. Prepare yourself the best you can and take the leap. It’s ok to figure some things out along the way.
