Meet SA Woman Member, Samantha Lane.

Business/Organisation: Nelson Locksmiths
Job Role: Director

Tell us a bit about you:

I’m a wife and mother of five, with deep roots in our family business, Nelson Locksmiths. My grandfather and father both worked for the company, and at 18, when I wasn’t sure what path to take, my dad suggested I work for him until I figured it out. Twenty-seven years later, as he begins to semi-retire, I’ve gained invaluable experience learning how to run a business from him. Along the way, I completed a university degree in Business Management, and now I’m transitioning into taking over the company, continuing our family legacy.

Beyond business, I’ve discovered a new love for fitness and have become an active contributing member of our local soccer club. At home, my three-year-old Moodle puppy, Ruby, is my constant companion—I couldn’t imagine life without her. I’m also incredibly grateful for my supportive husband, without whom I wouldn’t have been able to achieve all that I have. Above all, my five children are not only my greatest accomplishment but also my greatest teachers, shaping me into the person I am today.

Tell us a bit about your organisation:

Established in 1860, Nelson Locksmiths is South Australia’s oldest Master Locksmith. In the early 1990s, Chubb Australia gave its employees the opportunity to purchase the business, and 15 dedicated staff came together to make it happen. Over the years, as team members retired or pursued other opportunities, our family gradually acquired full ownership. Today, the business is solely owned and operated by my dad, my brother, and myself.

With a team of 15 skilled professionals, we proudly service a diverse commercial, government, and residential clientele, covering the Adelaide metro area and extending as far as the Western Australian and Northern Territory borders.

Let’s get to know you a little more:

What has been a lesson you learnt in your career or business that has stayed with you?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in business is to pause before you react. Business can be tough and overwhelming at times, and you won’t always have an immediate solution to every challenge. But I’ve learned that it’s okay to take a step back—there is always a path forward.

Another key lesson is the importance of trusting your team. For us, our team is family, and we always stick together. If we don’t all agree on something, we don’t move forward with it. We prioritize taking care of each other, and as a result, that sense of family and unity flows through to our entire staff. This has helped us build a strong, cohesive team that works together with trust and respect.

What is your favourite place in South Australia to visit?
Anywhere near the water!

Why is being part of SA Woman important to you?
My industry is predominantly male, so being part of SA Woman gives me another level of support and connection that I wouldn’t otherwise have. This community is important to me because it provides:

  • Inspiration & Encouragement – Being surrounded by women in business who are breaking barriers and achieving success motivates me to keep pushing forward.
A Strong Support Network – It’s empowering to have a space where I can share challenges, seek advice, and learn from the experiences of other women in leadership.
  • Opportunities for Growth – Engaging with SA Woman allows me to develop new skills, gain fresh perspectives, and continue growing as a business owner and leader.
  • A Sense of Belonging – In a male-dominated industry, it’s invaluable to have a community of women who understand the unique challenges we face and celebrate our achievements.
  • Collaboration & Connection – It’s not just about networking; it’s about forming real relationships with like-minded women who support and uplift each other.

Being part of SA Woman reminds me that I’m not alone on this journey, and that together, we can create real change and opportunities for women in business.
