Hi community, I am Madelene from Made Creative Co a full-service Digital Marketing and Events agency. My business officially started this year however, I have been freelancing for over three years (in another successful business I co-founded) and working in various Marketing and Communication roles for nearly six years.
I call myself a marketing unicorn – whatever my clients need I deliver and really the reason Made Creative Co has been so successful. I ‘fill in the gaps’ of businesses’ marketing – need some design work done, I’ll do it, need a blog written, I’ll do it, need a website built, I’ll do it, need a campaign created, I’ll do it, want a shoot styled, I’ll do it, need an amazing event…. think you know I’ll do it!
I have a passion for design and would say my creative eye is my strength and the reason businesses seek my services. Located here in SA I am lucky to serve clients across the country and hope to grow my footprint.
// Why did you decide to go into business?
When I was 23 I was going to countless interviews in search for a new marketing job. To my despair, I missed out by the smallest and normally stupidest reason so many times. It became disheartening and really frustrating. Not tooting my own horn, but I knew I was good, I had what it takes to do the work and make clients happy. A few family and friends were already asking me to do some work for their businesses and I thought why not make this a thing. I was sick of no one believing in me so I decided to believe in myself… and that paid off.
// What has been your biggest hurdle?
Being somewhat taken advantage of because I am so young (28 years old)… sometimes people question pricing just because you’re young too. However, I believe experience comes from situations not age and in the last 3-4 years I have thrown myself at everything and anything to gain the most experience I can to become the best Marketer I can.
// What do you love most about working for yourself?
The freedom to do what I want when I want… I hate 9-5 life, it ain’t for me!
// Lets talk South Australia, What do you love most about doing business here?
I love the community vibe and how we support one another. Word of mouth is huge here and I love that!
// What advice would you give other women wanting to start a business?
DO IT!! We live in an era where starting a business isn’t as scary as it use to be… and an era where if you’re unsure you can Google it, Youtube it or do a quick course… You don’t have to be amazing at everything aspect of business to start one… the only thing you need is passion and drive!
