Hi there! I’m Melissa and I’m the founder of Your Choice Conveyancing! I have been conveyancing for over 20 years (for those who have met me, yes it might seem crazy, but I started straight after finishing high school in 2001!) and I have been in business since July 2015. My office is located in Northgate, which is in the North-Eastern suburbs of Adelaide and I have 2 lovely staff members.
At Your Choice Conveyancing we take care of the legal documentation when you buy or sell real estate or when you subdivide land. We can also assist with private transfers, change of name documentation (e.g. if you have gotten married but your Title is still registered in your maiden name) or if you need to register the death of a proprietor.
Our business moto is “the right choice towards a stress free settlement”. Paperwork sucks for a lot of people, so we take care of all the hard stuff so that you can focus on the more important things … like packing and shopping for new house furniture!! Our focus is you. We look out for you, we look after you, and we keep your objectives in mind at all times.
// Why did you decide to go into business?
When I first discovered conveyancing, I knew that it would be a great business to be able to run while having a family as it has flexibility and could be a business you can run from home. I eventually decided to take the plunge after having a few sessions with a clinical psychologist for mental health issues and knowing that I needed to make some changes to my life. I decided to go out on my own and thought it would be best to do it before having a family so that I could try and establish the business before that chapter of my life came.
// What do you love most about working for yourself?
I love the fact that I get to create my own work environment and can choose the
people that I have around me! I also love the fact that I have freedom and flexibility and can juggle motherhood with my business hours, it still feels like I am being naughty some days when I only start mid-morning, or when I am “working from home” in my pjs!
// Share with us how life has changed since being in business?
Life for me has changed in a lot of ways!! Since starting business I have gotten engaged, married, had a baby during COVID and bought my first home! But I also have grown in a lot of ways including becoming more stronger, mentally I am in a healthier place and I am generally a more positive person and not as stressed (although don’t get me wrong, I still have days that I want to sit and hide from the world!). I have so many reasons to get up and go to work and most days, because I love what I do and who I do it with, I actually enjoy going to the office! And since the birth of my little girl, it has helped to teach me a lot about running a business, being a mum and finding the best way to balance life the best way that I can – I am NOT saying I have work life balance nailed, but I have found the best way that works for me.
// Do you have a fave place to spend summer/go to for coffee/ go to to relax/ go to for food?
My favourite place to be is by the beach! It can be a beautiful summer day or a miserable wintery day, either or, I love heading to Largs Bay and hearing the sound of the water, smelling the scent of the fresh air and enjoying a meal at the amazing Largs Pier Hotel! It is always a great way for me to recharge and reset. I am also very fond of visiting Beachport when we go to see family in the South-East, which is a beautiful little coastal town with the most amazing blue water.
// What is the best advice you have received that has stuck with you?
In business you can never have an idea and then sit and wait for what you think will be the right time, because there will never be the “perfect” time to do something. Sometimes you just need to take a risk and hope for the best. If it is meant to be, in the end it will all work out .. it might just be a little bumpy to start off with!
